The Music Of Brian Culbertson

This week shines the music spotlight on smooth jazz keyboardist Brian Culbertson.

Born in Decatur Illinois, January 12 1973, Brian Culbertson is a contemporary jazz, funk, and rhythm and blues musician/artist.Besides being an instumentalist, he is also a noted producer for himself as well as as for some for other  smooth jazz artist, such as guitarist Peter White, extraordinary keyboardist, Jeff Lorber, and flautist, Hubert Laws to name a few. His contributions for musical instruments include synthesized keyboards, piano, trombone, drum, bass, trumpet, and percussion. As a youth, he started playing the piano at the age of 8.

His first cd would come as he was a college student, and landed his first record deal as well. He is noted for having listened to such artists as Sting, George Duke, David Sanborn, Chicago, and Earth, Wind and Fire, just to name a few. He is heavily influenced by funk, which is the title of his new offering”Funk” slated for release in late September of this year. Brian Culbertson has worked, and contributed to artist such as Maurice White, Bootsy Collins, Musiq, Avant, Ledesi, Faith Evans, Vivian Green, Kenny Lattimore, Mint Condition, Rahsaan Patterson and the legendary Ray ParkerJr.from the R&B side of music. When it come to contemporary jazz, his musical talent extends to Jeff Lorber, Peter White, Herb Alpert, Boney James, Richard Elliot, Gerald Albright, Chris Botti, Dave Koz, Norman Brown, and many others not mentioned when it comes to smooth jazz.

Brian Culbertson is also noted for producing music for commercials to include McDonalds, State Farm, and Nintendo. He is also noted for having produced over 25 number one hits for the smooth jazz genre.
